About the Columbus Day Parade

Since 1952, the Columbus Day celebration has been a generations-old honoring the Chicagoland Italian American Community. The JCCIA welcomes everyone to join us in celebration for the 2025 Columbus Day Parade, held on Monday, October 13, 2025 on State Street in Chicago.

We are honored to have Fred Barbara serving as our 2025 Columbus Day Parade Chairman. We will also be celebrating Sicily as our Parade Region of Honor! This year’s grand marshals are: Chazz Palminteri from “A Bronx Tale”, and “America’s Tenor” Christopher Macchio!!

At 9 A.M. the day will begin with a glorious mass celebrated by Fr. Richard Fragomeni at Old St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 700 W Adams St, Chicago. There will be free parking for mass at 625 W. Adams Street. Vehicles can stay there until after the parade.

The parade opening ceremonies will start at 12 P.M. on the corner of State Street and Wacker Drive. After which, the parade will then commence south down State Street to Van Buren Street. After, there will be a post-parade reception on Rush Street sponsored by the Bellevue, Tavern on Rush, Gibson’s, and Carmine’s!

ABC7 will be broadcasting the parade live, and live-streaming on abc7chicago.com!

Thank you to everyone for a wonderful 2025 Columbus Day Parade! See you in 2026!

Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans 2025 Columbus Day Parade Chairman Fred Barbara

A native Chicagoan, Fred B. Barbara has displayed a sharp eye for opportunity and entrepreneurial drive from a very young age. At just 18, he began laying the foundation for a career defined by ambition and growth. By 23, he purchased his first truck and launched Fred B. Barbara Trucking, serving commercial and residential clients as well as local government contracts. What started with just one, then two trucks, quickly grew into a fleet of 150 before the company’s sale in 1997.

While his professional success is significant, Fred attributes much of who he is to his roots. Raised in a large Italian family and community, surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and lifelong family friends, he was shaped by their love, guidance, and support. That upbringing instilled in him strong values, cherished traditions, and a deep sense of pride in his Italian American heritage, qualities that continue to guide him in business and community life today.

Barbara has continued to expand his ventures over the years, building on the same determination and vision that shaped his early career. His business interests span a range of industries, each reflecting his ability to recognize opportunity and bring ideas to life. Today, he is the proud owner and operator of The Bellevue Chicago, a contemporary American restaurant at the corner of Rush Street and Bellevue Place in the heart of the Gold Coast.

We are honored to have Fred Barbara serving as our 2025 Chicago Columbus Day Parade Chairman!
